We are proud to announce the official launch of GreenEO, an EU-funded initiative coordinated by NILU, aimed at transforming how we monitor and protect the environment
Launched in support of the European Green Deal, GreenEO leverages cutting-edge satellite data from EUMETSAT, along with digital technologies, advanced atmospheric and land surface models, and machine learning, to equip decision-makers with advanced tools for land use planning, pollution tracking, and biodiversity conservation.
What GreenEO° Aims to Deliver:
- Enhanced satellite-based environmental intelligence to inform sustainable nature restoration policies.
- Focused monitoring across four key land-use types: urban areas, agricultural zones, forests, and natural ecosystems.
- Development of practical, high-impact applications including high-resolution air quality maps, emissions tracking systems, forest fire risk tools, agriculture emission tracking, and ecosystem health monitors.
GreenEO brings together a consortium of 11 partner organisations spanning meteorological institutes, SMEs, and universities across Europe, including: NILU, KNMI, Météo-France, Aarhus University, Norwegian Meteorological Institute, IPMA, Lobelia Earth, LGI, INRAE, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Umweltbundesamt.
The project kicked off with a two-day meeting featuring opening remarks by Leonor Tarrason (Project Coordinator), and presentations from key stakeholders including Lara Congiu (European Commission), Rasmus Lindstrot (EUMETSAT), and Oleg Dubovik (PANORAMA Project).
